Join Theater Alaska at Juneau Fine Arts Camp for an unforgettable summer of theater! Study with an incredible faculty of professional theater artists and build your skills in musical theater performance, acting, Shakespeare performance, singing, Bollywood dancing, and more. Classes are available for elementary, middle, and high school students—there’s something for everyone!

Teachers include Ericka Lee, Donnie Gott, Nimmy Philips, Wendy Byrnes, Deborah Wood, Bostin Christopher, as well as Broadway performers Q Smith, Lawrence Stallings, and Angel Desai.

INTRO TO ACTING
Week 1: June 1-5

Grades 4-6

Instructor: Wendy Byrnes

Discover the fundamentals of acting with professional actor Wendy Byrnes. In this engaging class, students will learn to collaborate with others, bring characters to life, and enjoy the art of play. Through fun, hands-on activities, participants will build confidence and creativity.

PERFORMING SHAKESPEARE
WEEK 2 & 3: June 8-19

Grades 4-12

Instructor: Donnie Gott

Calling all creatives, weirdos, nerds, and clowns! Do you memorize song lyrics even to the songs you don’t even like? Do you like playing make-believe? Do you dance around in youliving room? Do you believe in fairies? Join Donnie Gott for a summertime adventure filled with humor, magic, transformation, and most importantly PLAY! This two-week course will introduce students to Shakespeare by way of some of his most delightful characters and will provide young artists with a joyful and engaging pathway to learning about Shakespeare. Students will work from the original text to explore Shakespeare’s language – touching on the use of iambic pentameter and verse with an overall focus on understanding. 

Over the course of the camp, students will craft a Shakespearean monologue or scene under professional direction and develop performance skills through movement and breathwork. Actors willlearn to provide constructive evaluation of each other’s work and learn how to incorporate evaluation into their own work. Each day will bring opportunity for education, connection, exploration, and fun in a supportive and inclusive environment. Sign up today for one or both sessions, and come and play!

MUSICAL THEATER PRODUCTION: Aladdin Kids
Week 2 & 3: June 8-19

Led by professional performer and teacher Ericka Lee and singing instructor Deborah Wood, in this exciting program students will develop and refine their performance skills in acting, dancing, and singing. With a focus on building strong characters, working collaboratively as an ensemble, and delivering authentic performances, participants will gain confidence on stage while having fun. The class will conclude with a thrilling musical theater performance at the Thunder Mountain Middle School Auditorium—don’t miss your chance to shine!

Get ready to move and groove in this exciting Bollywood dance class with choreographer Nimmy Philips! Throughout the week, students will learn energetic Bollywood choreography while exploring the rich traditions of Indian culture. VOICE AND MOVEMENT
Week 3: June 15-19

Discover the power of your voice and body in this fun and energetic theater class! Students will explore the fundamentals of stage movement, vocal projection, articulation, and physical expression through games, exercises, and short performance pieces. This class helps young actors build confidence, improve stage presence, and learn how to use their voice and movement to bring characters to life. Perfect for beginners and  more experienced performers. Voice and Movement encourages creativity, teamwork, and self-expression in a supportive environment.

ACTING FOR THE CAMERA
Week 4: June 22-26

Grades 7-12

Instructor: Angel Desai

Step in front of the camera and learn the art of on-screen performance. In this unique class, students will rehearse scenes while focusing on acting techniques tailored for film and video. Through hands-on practice, students will have the opportunity to watch their performances in playback, gaining valuable insights and refining their skills. Perfect for aspiring screen actors—come bring your best take to life!

SONG PERFORMANCE WORKSHOP
Week 4: June 22-26

Grades 2-12

Instructor: Angel Desai

Discover your voice, your sound, and your stage presence in our Song Performance Workshop! This fun and supportive camp is perfect for young musicians and singers who want to bring their favorite songs to life—whether on guitar, violin, piano - any instrument, or voice.

Throughout the week, campers will work on individual pieces learning how to interpret music expressively and perform confidently in front of others. Guided by Broadway performer Angel Desai, students will explore different musical styles, storytelling through song, and the art of communicating emotion through performance. The camp will conclude with a showing celebrating each performer’s progress and creativity.
