ROLES:
DIANE & OTHERS (Female-identifying, 50s–60s) A traditional divorcee from Texas, Diane is terrified that her son may have been flying at the time of the attacks. When she learns he is safe, she is given a new lease on life and discovers a wilder, more carefree side of herself. Vocal range: Contemporary soprano or mezzo with a strong mix up to D.

HANNAH & OTHERS (Female-identifying, 30s–50s) The mother of a firefighter in Manhattan, Hannah waits anxiously for news about her son and finds comfort in Beulah, who supports her during an unimaginably difficult time. Vocal range: Contemporary soprano with a strong high mix up to E.

JANICE & OTHERS (Female-identifying, 20s) An eager new local TV reporter, Janice is thrown into the deep end on her first day on the job. Initially naïve about the world around her, she must confront the pain, fear, and confusion unfolding before her. Vocal range: Contemporary soprano with a strong belt and mix up to E.

BEULAH & OTHERS (Female-identifying, 40s–60s)  The head of the Gander Legion and the mother of a firefighter, Beulah befriends Hannah, walking with her to church and praying alongside her. Quick-witted and open-hearted, she loves to share a joke and bring comfort to those around her. Vocal range: Mezzo with a strong belt up to B.

BONNIE & OTHERS (Female-identifying, 30s–50s) A no-nonsense mother of three, Bonnie is the head of the Gander-area SPCA. When she discovers that animals are trapped aboard the planes, she stops at nothing to ensure their safety. Vocal range: Mezzo with a strong belt up to B.

BEVERLY & OTHERS (Female-identifying, 40s–50s) An American Airlines pilot, Beverly has always loved flying. Her world changes when she learns that colleagues were killed in the attacks and when she is confronted by passengers who are afraid to fly again. Vocal range: Soprano belter with a strong high mix up to C♯.

OZ & OTHERS (Male-identifying, 30s–50s) The quirky constable in Gander’s two-person police force. When the town’s population suddenly doubles, Oz rises to the occasion and helps in unexpected ways. Vocal range: High tenor up to G.

KEVIN T. & OTHERS (Male-identifying, 30s–40s) The head of an environmental energy company in Los Angeles, Kevin is vacationing with his boyfriend—and assistant, also named Kevin—when they become stranded in Gander. Inspired by the town’s extraordinary generosity, he later creates the Pay It Forward Foundation. Vocal range: High tenor up to G.

KEVIN J. & OTHERS (Male-identifying, 30s–40s) Kevin’s boyfriend and assistant. Sarcastic and frustrated by their circumstances, he wants nothing more than to leave Gander and return to the United States as soon as possible. Vocal range: Tenor or baritone.

BOB & OTHERS (Male-identifying, 20s–40s) A hardened New Yorker, Bob is suspicious of where he has landed. Fearing World War III and convinced someone may shoot him or steal his wallet, he instead finds himself slowly shedding his New York cynicism. Vocal range: Baritone.

CLAUDE & OTHERS (Male-identifying, 40s–60s) The gregarious and well-liked mayor of Gander, Newfoundland, Claude loves his work, his community, and his daily traditions. But he has never faced a crisis of this magnitude. Vocal range: Baritenor/tenor up to G.

NICK & OTHERS (Male-identifying, 50s–60s) An English oil engineer focused on his work, Nick’s life is turned upside down when he falls for fellow passenger Diane. Vocal range: Baritone or baritenor up to E.
