Covi Brannan

Covi Loveridge Brannan (she/her) is a queer actress, playwright, dramaturg, teaching artist, and creative producer based in New York City. With graduate degrees in Performing Arts Management (MA) as well as Environmental Sustainability Strategies (GC), her passion for climate and community activism brought her to Instituto de Pesquisas da Biodiversidade in Brazil’s Atlantic Rainforest where she assisted in conservation field research. Upon returning to New York, her site-specific, eco-feminist production of CHRISTIE (adapted from "Anna Christie" by Eugene O'Neill), premiered at The Waterfront Museum in October 2022, where she was featured in the title role. Her one-act play RECIPE FOR A WITCH HUNT was nominated for "Best Short Play" at NY Winterfest 2019, where she also received a "Best Actress" nomination for her performance. She has collaborated with Rosalind Productions Inc., Primary Stages (Off Broadway), Et Alia Theatre, Naked Angels, the NY Public Library Shelf Life Program, Wingspan Arts, Miranda Theater Company, and Italytime Cultural Center. As a teaching artist, Covi aims to cultivate confidence, curiosity, and compassion in her students through imaginative play, sensorial exploration, and exercises that engage the body and voice. Her work is grounded in psycho-physical acting techniques including Michael Chekhov, Grotowski, and Linklater Voice. She has taught various courses in the NYC public and independent school systems including Fairytale Theatre, Myths & Legends, and Sketch Comedy & Improv. In 2022, Covi developed and taught a series of free eco-arts workshops for students aged 8-16 living in the Red Hook Houses, the largest public housing complex in New York City. This curriculum utilized various artistic mediums such as acting, improv, creative writing, visual art, and sewing, to introduce students to the science of climate change and brainstorm solutions for building resilient local futures.
